The successful candidate will have extensive experience on the Microsoft Azure cloud platform, with demonstrated experience in delivering application and platform transformation projects. They will work closely with various stakeholders, including the project team, business areas, and technical teams who support the current solutions (both application and infrastructure).
Key duties and responsibilities
Deliverables for the Solutions Architect include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Design Cloud Architecture: Design the overall cloud architecture for migrating in-scope applications to Azure, ensuring scalability, security, and cost-efficiency.
- Deliver Architectural Artefacts: Provide architectural designs, patterns, options, and other associated artefacts Client systems.
- Define Non-Functional Requirements: Specify non-functional requirements, including security, capacity, performance, cross-capacity, and cross-release concerns.
- Develop Complex Solutions: Understand business requirements to develop complex engineering solutions potentially across multiple hosting platforms, including on-premises and cloud environments.
- Collaborate with Stakeholders: Effectively collaborate with stakeholders, including the immediate team, enterprise architecture, and business units, to address concerns and deliver fit-for-purpose, robust solutions.
- Work with DevOps and Infrastructure Teams: Collaborate with DevOps and core infrastructure services teams to ensure successful delivery of solutions.
- Assess Impact of Changes: Evaluate the impact of operational system changes when implementing designs.
- Other Duties: Perform other duties as required and advised by the Director.
Essential criteria
- Essential Criteria: • Deep Knowledge of Azure Cloud Services: Extensive experience with Azure cloud services, including Azure App Services, Azure SQL, Azure Storage, Virtual Networks, Audit logs, APIM, Azure AD, and Azure Security features. • Security and Compliance Expertise: Strong understanding of security and compliance in the cloud, including Identity and Access Management (IAM), encryption, and data protection regulations. • Application Migration Experience: Proven experience in designing solutions for migrating applications from on-premises services to cloud services. • CI/CD and DevOps Practices: Proficiency in designing solutions that leverage CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, ARM templates/BICEP), and DevOps practices. • Excellent Communication Skills: Ability to articulate technical designs clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. • Experience in Solution Design: Demonstrated experience in designing solutions for migrating applications from on-premises services to cloud services.
- • Experience with CI/CD and DevOps: Proven experience in designing solutions that incorporate CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, ARM templates/BICEP), and DevOps practices. • Knowledge of/Experience with IBM WebSphere and HCL Portal/HCL WCM Capabilities: Proficiency in IBM WebSphere, HCL Portal, HCL WCM capabilities, Java, and associated frameworks.
Desirable criteria
- Desirable Criteria: • Azure Solutions Architect Expert Qualification: Azure Solutions Architect Expert certification or equivalent cloud certification. • Experience with Entra/ForgeRock/Ping Identity: Knowledge and experience with Entra, ForgeRock and Ping Identity solutions. • Experience with Cloud-Based Applications: Experience in designing solutions for Angular, Micronaut, and Java applications in a cloud environment. • Familiarity with Cloud Governance Frameworks: Understanding of cloud governance frameworks, Guardrails, Azure policies, and Landing zones in Azure. • Knowledge of Cloud Security and Integration: Knowledge of security and integration practices for cloud platforms, including AWS and Azure. • Experience in Commonwealth Government: Previous experience working within the Commonwealth government sector.
The role is on an initial contract to 30 June 2025 with two (2) possible 12-month contract extension options. The work is based in Woden with the option to work at home two (2) days a week (3 days on site).
